Ways to Connect to God
Connect to God in Your Heart
God lives inside of every human heart. It is when you believe in God or Jesus from within your heart, trust in God’s existence or God’s goodness from within, you will feel God’s Presence inside of you. This is a genuine experience that fills you with the peace, love, and joy of God. It is the feeling of knowing God intimately, being connected to God, or being awakened to God’s Presence from within.
Talking with God
You can begin connecting to God by talking with God everyday. Since God is omnipresent, He hears every word you say, even if you don’t feel it. You may find as you talk to God each day, you’ll notice little “coincidences” within your day to day life. Some people call them “God winks,” others call them “synchronicities”. Whatever you call them, they’re reminders that God is with you in your life and He hears your prayers.
Treating God as Your Best Friend
When you talk with God as a best friend, you will have a much easier time relating to God in a healthy way. God has called you to be friends with Him (John 10:10) and relate to Him mainly through the gift of friendship. Even though you may have a best friend on Earth, there are some things in life that only God will understand.
Enjoying God
Your connection to God is meant to be enjoyed. Imagine you have a friend and you invite them for coffee. Hopefully, you laugh a lot with each other, you smile a lot, and you enjoy each other’s company. With God, it is no different. Think about what makes you happy about God? What is it that brings you joy or excitement about God? It could be a song, a book, an enjoyable sermon or discussion. When you find things that you enjoy about God, you are aligning yourself with who God is and who you are made to be.
Thankfulness
Thankfulness is one of my favorite ways of connecting to God. You can connect to God easily when you take time to slow down and find things to be grateful to God for from within your heart. When you thank God from within your heart, you will feel God’s Light within you growing like a lamp. The more you thank God for everything you have, the more you feel God’s love and goodness inside of you. You realize that when you are thankful, you already have everything you need. I practice thankfulness by finding a coffee table with a window, and I sit outside of the window and I thank God for everything I see. I also like to thank God when I am washing dishes and looking out of the window. There is usually a scripture I can thank God for teaching me or some piece of nature that I can thank God for that brings beauty into my life.
Remembrance
Remembrance is one of my favorite ways of connecting to God. When I practice remembrance, I take out a journal and I begin to write down things that God has done for me in the past (places where I really noticed God or connected to God within my life). This helps me to slow down and think of God. I might write a prophetic word that someone gave me that really spoke to my heart, I might write down a vision, a dream, or a scripture God showed me. There will be days in life when we don’t notice God or feel God is with us, but remembrance helps to remind ourselves of the truth: that God is always there and always acting within in our lives.
Worship
You can connect to God though having time of worship by listening to your favorite music about God. I like to connect with God by starting the morning with my favorite worship music or hymns. I love to watch videos of people singing songs about God because it reminds me that God is what connects us all. Listening to music about God can help you to think of God in positive ways, heal your heart, encourage you, strengthen your trust in God, or remind you of important truths.
Prayer
You can connect to God through having a time for prayer each day. When you pray, you are simply talking to God or telling him your concerns in life. You can do that quietly, in your own thoughts, or out loud. You can pray to God for yourself or pray to God for the good of others. If you don’t know what to pray, that’s okay. You can always ask God or the angels what to pray for and God will put something on your heart to pray for. In the Bible, Jesus always found a private place to pray and He similarly instructs his followers to find a private place as well to pray each day to God.
Scriptures
You can connect to God through reading scriptures from the Bible. God and the angels showed me that it is important to read and connect to scripture for spiritual growth and development. God showed me in Heaven that the Words of God in scripture will heal and change you from the inside out, teach you about God’s truth and love, and impart God’s words into your heart and your inward being.
